Summary

This award will allow two ZSL staff members to attend the strategic planning workshop in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, allowing for further discussion with project partners on the development of the proposed Darwin Initiative application while contributing expertise to the conservation planning process. The ZSL staff members would then travel with project partners to the Altai Gobi region to a base in Bayantooroi. From here discussions on the proposed project will take place with the protected area Buffer Zone Committee, additional local community representatives, and SPA Staff. Specific actions will be identified where ZSL expertise will be of most benefit, that will be effective in the context of the local situation, and that fit the aims of the Darwin Initiative. Allocation of responsibilities between organisations, discussion of the potential input each organisation can offer (e.g. staff time), and identification of funding sources will also be discussed.
