To assist in the creation of a conservation strategy for the western lowland gorilla within Gabon using molecular techniques, and to create genetic profiles to establish the identity of individual gorillas.

Project Outputs
Train CIRMF technician in laboratory techniques in UK and Gabon. Hold 3 conservation biology workshops of 30 students from Gabon/Central Africa. Publish 2-4 scientific articles. Establish genetic, demographic and biogeographic databases. Establish reference collection of gorilla hair/DNA at CIRMF. Present final data at International Primate Society. Establish permanent research unit at CIRMF. UWC/WCS PhD student. Deliver management plan to Ministere des Eaux et Forets.
