Summary
● To consolidate and build capacity for long term viability of cranes, associated endemics and threatened habitat in South Africa through development of sensitivity maps, population habitat viability analyses (PHVA) and training in line with government and institutional responsibilities relating to the CBD
● Management recommendations from PHVA models & sensitivity maps for all 3 crane species in South Africa; ● Information for inclusion in bioregional plans and statutory processes around threatened and protected species and ecosystems; ● Forward Strategy for National Crane Conservation 2009 - 2013; ● Collaborative partnership with Working for Wetlands Programme; ● Capacity in advocacy and lobbying techniques; ● South African capacity in data analysis including statistical methods and spatial analysis, GIS database management; ● African regional capacity built in GIS and spatial analysis including basic statistical analysis; ● Fully functional GIS unit for management of crane and associated endemics and habitat within EWT; ● Three annual standardised status reports for the 3 crane species; ● Financial forward strategy for crane conservation; ● Expanded and enhanced community environment education programme; ● Publications & Publicity
